Curated by Sydney based art anti-socialites The
Motel Sisters, Becos I'm Worf It! is
a collaborative group show featuring 22 artists who have created a
series of portraits of Paris and Tacky Motel.
The ultimate
parody of portraiture awards, pop culture and the bizarre phenomenon
of celebrity, Becos I’m Worf It! also
focuses on hybridity within contemporary art, encouraging individual
artists to challenge their work by integrating their practice with
other juxtaposing styles and mediums.
“All the rappers are, like, collaborating
and featuring in each others songs and video clips! So we thought;
That’s so
hot right now, lets do that with art!” (Paris
and Tacky Motel)
In November/ December of 2007, as recipients of the
Linden Innovators program – 2007, The Motel Sisters hosted
the initial “Becos I’m Worf It!” exhibition in Melbourne’s
Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts.
Becos I’m Worf It! Melbourne
showcased 17 artists and a selection of M.E Award entries. The
M.E Award was an open call for artists to enter a portraiture competition
of The Motel Sisters in order to win the opportunity to exhibit at Becos
I’m Worf It! in Sydney 2008.
As a touring exhibition Becos I’m Worf it! reunites the original
17 artist collaborations with 5 new artists selected from The M.E Award,
to show at MOP projects in
September/ October 2008.
